OUR SMILES

At the age of 10-14, girls begin their second growth spurt. It’s an essential stage for the alignment of teeth and jaws.

The benefits of orthodontic treatment:
*Guidance of jaw growth

  • Correction of the difference between the dimensions of two jaws.
  • Tooth alignment
  • Duration between 12 and 24 months

Treatment duration depends on a number of factors:

  • Case complication
  • Patient age
  • Keeping control appointments
  • Patient-side cooperation

Phase 1 – aims to influence jaw growth in a good relationship to each other.
Treatment begins at the age of 7 with an upper jaw expansion appliance to create space for the posterior permanent teeth and align the jaws.

Phase 2 – Treatment generally begins around age 11. Treatment time is shorter with phase 1 than without phase 1.

An example of a two-phase treatment for a girl with an anterior crossbite.

Before

After

Phase 1 – The aim is to stimulate growth of the upper jaw. Treatment begins around the age of 8-9 years, with a palatal expansion appliance and a facial mask.

Phase 2 – The aim is to align the two jaws and create a normal bite. Treatment begins around age 12. For this type of treatment, the duration is variable due to the eruption of permanent teeth and jaw growth, which can continue even after the age of 18.

There is no age limit for orthodontic treatment. In this situation, only the position of the teeth can be changed. To have an effect on the ratio of the jaws, it is necessary to consider a surgical approach.
