Emergencies

Most problems can be solved by the parents or yourself, avoiding a trip to the office. However, if the problem cannot be easily solved, or if you are in any doubt, please do not hesitate to contact our clinic so that we can guide you through the protocol to follow, or arrange an appointment if necessary.

If necessary, take the medication you usually take for pain. Tylenol is recommended.

IRRITATION IN THE MOUTH

Sometimes, new braces can be irritating to the cheeks and lips. If you feel irritation on the inside of your lips or cheeks, rinse with lukewarm salted water and then apply orthodontic wax to the targeted areas. If a piece of wax comes off and you swallow it, there’s no need to worry.

IRRITANT WIRE

Occasionally, a wire may shift and become irritating. Use a Q-tip or a pencil with an eraser to bend back a ligature that hurts. If this is not possible, you can cover it with wax as explained above. Call us if you need to adjust the wire position.

If it’s impossible for you to get to the office, the wire can be cut as a last resort. Wax may still be needed to help relieve irritation.

UNGLUED CASES OR RINGS

We may even be able to wait until the next appointment, but you still need to let us know so that an appointment can be made as soon as possible.
