Why is the annual check-up important?

The annual dental check-up is essential for preventing dental problems before they become serious, such as cavities or gum disease. It also allows for the early detection of conditions like oral cancer, which can be life-saving. By having this check-up regularly, you avoid more costly and invasive treatments while receiving personalized advice to maintain optimal oral hygiene. In short, this exam is an investment in your long-term health.

Perhaps you're seeking a second opinion?

We will be happy to assist you in this regard. No one is too old or too young to get an orthodontic evaluation. Our patients range in age from 0 to 99 years old.

A routine dental check-up involves checking your teeth for cavities, plaque or tartar. Dental plaque is a whitish deposit that sticks to the surface of the teeth. Mainly made up of bacteria, it hardens and turns into tartar if not removed in time.

Unfortunately, at this stage, only a dental professional can remove it. If you neglect to do so, a variety of problems may arise in the longer term.

The second step in the check-up is to examine your gums with an instrument that measures the space between your teeth and gums. If this space is minimal, your gums are in good health; if it is more pronounced, there is inflammation. Of course, this examination takes into account the particularities of each patient (eating habits, smoking habits, salivary characteristics, diabetes, etc.). Tests to detect oral cancers are also available.

Healthy gingiva is pink in color, well attached around the teeth and not bleeding.

Gingivitis is the first stage of inflammation, with red color, bleeding and abundant plaque. The bone is not affected.

Periodontitis is the inflammation of the gums and supporting bone; teeth begin to be mobile, bleeding occurs, bad breath develops, the gums form pockets around the tooth, and the root surface becomes exposed.
