These teeth have deep grooves where bacteria can settle and cause decay. The sealant is applied to these areas, creating a protective barrier that prevents plaque and food from getting into the crevices. Sealants are especially recommended for children and teenagers, as their permanent teeth have just come in and are more vulnerable to cavities.
